Where Are The Mayor's Shorts In Stardew Valley Location And Quest Guide

Finding Mayor Lewis's lucky purple shorts is one of the most iconic early-game quests in Stardew Valley. On the 3rd of Summer during your first year, you receive a discreet letter from Mayor Lewis asking for help retrieving his lost apparel. Uncovering these secret shorts requires a blend of social progression and strategic exploration across Pelican Town.

Starting the Quest and Locating the Shorts

Once the quest activates in your journal, your search will lead you directly to Marnie's Ranch located in Cindersap Forest. The missing item is lying visibly on the floor inside Marnie's personal bedroom. However, you cannot immediately walk in to retrieve the shorts without establishing a relationship with her first.

To access Marnie's bedroom, you must reach a minimum of a two-heart friendship level with her. Gifting her liked or loved items such as Quartz, Diamond, or Farmer's Lunch twice a week will speed up this process. Once you unlock her bedroom door, simply interact with the purple shorts on the floor to pick them up.

Alternative Methods and Unlocking the Basement

Players who prefer not to build friendship with Marnie have alternative strategies to obtain the garment. Following recent game updates, placing a craftable Staircase inside Mayor Lewis's bedroom grants access to a secret underground maze. At the end of this subterranean room, players can claim the Lucky Purple Shorts while avoiding a humorous flying shorts monster.

Another method involves using a Staircase in your character's pants clothing slot to automatically transform it into Trimmed Lucky Purple Shorts. These alternative routes allow players to complete quest interactions or discover secret Easter eggs without delay. Having multiple ways to acquire the item adds engaging flexibility to your playthrough.

Returning the Item or Secret Interactions

To complete the quest in the standard manner, approach Mayor Lewis while holding the shorts in your active inventory slot. Handing them over discreetly completes the task, rewarding you with 750 gold and one full friendship heart with the mayor. You can typically find Lewis walking around Pelican Town or spending evenings at the Stardrop Saloon.

Alternatively, holding onto the purple shorts opens up several funny interactions throughout the game's calendar. Placing the shorts inside your Grange Display at the Stardew Valley Fair triggers unique dialogue and grants free Star Tokens despite disqualification. You can also drop them into the soup during the annual Luau festival for a hilarious custom cutscene.
